    Dealing with christmas depression

The run up to Christmas seems to start earlier and earlier every year, but what if Christmas isn’t so exciting? Let’s talk about dealing with Christmas depression. There is a big push at this time of year, shops full of decorations and gift sets, and TV adverts selling the idea of parties full of friends and family. But not everyone has lots of friends and family, and if Christmas doesn’t look like that ideal, it can make you feel less than festive. For me, Christmas was all about seeing my two-favourite people, my Nan and Grandad, who always came to my mom and Dad’s for Christmas day. The day was…

    I got covid

The last two weeks have been a blur of covid symptoms and fatigue, yes after 2years I got covid and I want to chat about my experience and how I’m feeling now. I have been lucky, as a mostly housebound disabled woman I have managed to avoid getting it sick with this awful illness. However, two weeks ago my mother in law had a fall and was taken to A&E she is fine and had no lasting effects from it. However, my husband had to drive there to be with her because his sister was away on holiday, while with her he caught covid from her. By the time he…

    The importance of rest

When dealing with chronic illnesses, the importance of rest cannot be overlooked, it goes against society yet is needed. Let’s talk about it. In our society, which is very much based on money, how much you have and how much you earn, we are bought up to believe unless you work you are not worthy. The idea of being on benefits, or needing help is thought to be a dirty concept, that you are worth less or must be lazy. So, when disability comes later in life leaving us unable to work, we feel as if we have to keep up a façade of still doing. By this I mean,…

Guilt as a disabled content creator

I thought we would chat about guilt as a disabled content creator in the hopes of helping you understand how it feels to be trying to raise awareness. You see I have been creating content and raising awareness for about twenty years now, mostly on blogs or places like Tumblr and Live Journal where I started out. Back then it was more of a way to get my feelings out and to try to cope with being newly disabled. As I grew in confidence, I moved over to a website I built myself and then over to a WordPress site where we have been ever since. Then about five years…

A Quick Guide To What Should Be In Every Will

When you write a will, you need to consider what your assets are and who will inherit them. You also need to choose an executor, someone who will carry out your wishes after you die. Your will should be specific about your wishes, and it should be kept in a safe place. You may want to give a copy to your executor and to any beneficiaries. It’s a good idea to review your will periodically, especially if there are changes in your life or in the lives of your beneficiaries. If you make any changes to your will, be sure to have the changes witnessed and dated. Here’s A Quick…

When medical test results come back normal

It might not make much sense to most people, but when medical test results come back normal, it’s not always a time to celebrate. Let me explain. I recently had a barium swallow, a medical test because I have the feeling of something in my throat. I often choke and it can be very painful, I even struggle to swallow at all at times. I’ve been trying to find out what it is for a while with every test coming back normal, I’ve been hopeful for the barium test. However, I just got a letter back saying the consultant is very pleased to tell me there is nothing wrong and…

    Invisible Disabilities Week 2022

It’s invisible disabilities week 2022 and as always, I want to shine a light on how mine affect my life and those around me so let’s chat. I first got sick in university, headaches constantly making me miss work and making it hard to do well in my schoolwork. Then when I graduated, they got worse, missing one or two nursing shifts every set and gaining a lot of flack from co-workers thinking I was just trying to dodge work. But when you cannot see properly, and you are throwing up its kind of hard to do a nursing shift! Then one day, at a festival, my lower left leg…

Why I agreed to be on Bargain Brits on Benefits

Last night my episode of a tv show aired and oh my goodness it was so cool to see the final product. I thought this week we would be good to chat about why I agreed to be on Bargain Brits on Benefits. During the summer you might recall me talking about a top-secret project that I couldn’t tell anyone about. Well during some of the hottest days in the summer, I was filming a tv show called Bargain Brits on Benefits. I hate the title but it’s a show about thrifting, making, crafting all the ways we save money. I love the show because it is uplifting and shows…
