Wow this last week has been an exhausting whirlwind! Last Wednesday we drove 2 and a half hours each way to pick up a rescue dog from Pupcakes rescue. We were told he was aggressive at first and didn’t like to be touched until he knew you, we were prepared for it to take time and to be honest were mostly concerned with him feeling safe. We wanted to give him a chance and were excited to get him, however we had no idea how different he would be once we got him home.

We were on edge the first day, and of course stress can make pain and fatigue worse, but after building trust, he was lovely. Dexter does have snappy moments, usually when he is stressed so we try and keep him as calm as possible. I am so glad we gave him a chance he is such a character and as long as you are patient with him at first you get to know this lovely dog.

Dexter is a shih tzu he is so cute, he is funny and sweet and though he has moments when he can snap at you, they are very rare. Dexter has come into our home and is so sweet and loving, he loves having his stomach tickled and even wakes me up in the night to have a cuddle and a tummy tickle!

Taking him out with Gizmo for walks every day is important to me as it will build up my fitness and help me to get out and grow in confidence as well. It has not been easy to do this because of my fatigue levels and I am thankful that Lee has taken a week off work so he can take him as well if I am not feeling up to it.

Of course, a downside to all this excitement has seen an increase in my fatigue, I have needed more naps and getting up at 7am has been hard on me. My pain has also increased but not as much as I expected, and I am thankful for that. However, the love that Dexter has bought into our home has more than made up for the pain and fatigue and we are so glad to have him.

If you want to see more of his journey, make sure to subscribe to my you tube channel I will have a video about him up on there and I am sure he will be making appearances. I also post regular pictures on my Instagram so head over there and follow I do follow back and will post a lot about him there.

Overall it has been an exhausting whirlwind, but I would have it no other way, I’m taking my time and being patient with myself but I’m excited. Having Dexter has helped my mental health so much and he’s cheered up the house in ways we could not have imagined. Our family just love him he’s so silly and loving and has such a gentle heart I am just thankful that we are his forever home.
