Youtube Creator Wellbeing – World Wellbeing Week 2025
It is wellbeing awareness week, and they are focusing on wellbeing at work, I do not work however I do have a YouTube channel. So, I thought I would focus on YouTube Creator Wellbeing it’s an important conversation, let’s get into it.

My YouTube experience
I have been a creator on YouTube now for eight years, and I have made a lot of mistakes, honestly, I have often wondered if I should start again. However, I love my little corner of the internet, and my community is amazing.
YouTube is a wonderful resource, and I have loved making videos based on the things I love and enjoy. However, it is not easy, and it is very hard to get people to watch even if they are subscribed, so talking about this during the awareness week is important.
Over the years, it has often made me frustrated and affected my mental health when I have spent literal hours on my videos every week to get barely 100 views. It has caused me to struggle with my mental health and feelings of self-worth, and unless you are a YouTube creator it can be difficult to understand that.
My week revolves around making content, Mondays I record a video, Tuesday or Wednesday I will edit it which takes a whole afternoon. Once that video is up I can then spend a couple hours on a Friday afternoon doing the subtitles and getting the video out and promoted.
But that isn’t all, I love Monday to Friday every week and spend Saturday afternoons editing and getting the video up. On Mondays as well as recording a video, I spend a couple of hours subtitling and putting out the weekly vlog.
Of course, on top of all that, Wednesday mornings are spend writing and putting out this blog. So, you can see how much work goes into my channel and yet I don’t get many views, and I am still not monetised.
These two things are big hurdles for me, and the problem is not my content, it is the algorithm.
I know everyone blames the algorithm, but most of the time it is doing all it can to push out our content because they want people to stay on the app watching longer. But my channel is hard for it to figure out because my videos are not all the same.
I concentrate on showing life as a disabled witch in my weekly vlog, then on Fridays I show thrift hauls, book reviews and crafting content all with a spotlight on witchcraft. I often speak about disability and chronic illness within those videos, but it is generally not the focus.
However, the algorithm prefers channels that basically have the same video every time, then it knows who to push it out to. This is why many larger channels become boring to watch because they are pushed into a small hole and cannot create anything different or that video will not do well.
But being creative is what attracts people to making YouTube channels, so when they are put into having to make the same content all the time it can really make it become a chore. On top of this, is the fact that people work hard, often alongside full-time work to make videos hoping to be able to make it.
The numbers, watch time and pressure can be a lot, and I personally do not feel that YouTube do enough to help. They do have a Creator Safety Centre, however, I feel that unless the algorithm allows people to be more creative it isn’t enough.
So, it is up to us to try and stop that burnout, and to protect ourselves by concentrating on YouTube creator wellbeing instead of just numbers.
YouTuber Wellbeing
- Change of Scenery – Try not to record where you sleep, that goes for editing too it is so important to have work, life balance. So, if possible, try to record in a room that is not used so much and to edit there too this way you can walk away if you need a break.
- Don’t monetise everything – I show a lot of my hobbies on my channel and I vlog my week. However, it is important to not monetise everything, keep some hobbies for yourself and take time off from vlogging. I try to keep my weekends free from vlogging for this reason or take days off in the week if I am doing something special, I want to vlog at the weekend.
- Make friends – The YouTube community is amazing, creative people just wanting to share their passions and hobbies. Becoming friends with other creators is so much more than collab videos, it is people to talk to and get advice from. Look out for your fellow creators who might be struggling and find ways to support one another. I love to share videos from other smaller creators in my community tab so they can reach more people.
- Fall in love – Falling in love with creating is so important, make your videos about things you love and not just about what is successful. That is where I went wrong in the past and I am so glad I started talking about the things I am passionate about instead. It should be about creativity and enjoyment not money and ego.
- Be safe – The human race can be wonderful, but it can also be the absolute worst! Make sure your channel is safe by using all their safety features and remember there are block and hide buttons. Also, if you are vlogging, protect where you live by not showing your house or local area online.
I really hope that this post about YouTube creator wellbeing this world wellbeing week, helps you to protect your mental health. I have never understood why channels have lots of subscribers but not as many views on each video. I didn’t know about the algorithm so thank you. I appreciate your hard work, especially as you don’t know how many spoons you’ll have to be able to get tasks done each time.
