Feeling Stressed Out? Here Are Five Activities That Offer The Deep Relaxation You Need

Stress is one of the biggest problems in today’s day and age. It’s become almost synonymous with modern life, in fact, and whether it’s jobs, family life, or something else, everyone goes through it at some point.

Addressing the root cause of the problem is the most important aspect of overcoming stress, but many practices can help you along the way. In this article, you’ll learn about five activities designed to help you relax so that you’re then in a better frame of mind to tackle the issues you face.

1. Mindful Meditation

Mindfulness meditation is exactly what it sounds like: a blend of both meditation and mindfulness techniques that complement each other to provide maximum benefit to the individual. 

It’s all about taking a short amount of time out of your day (usually 10 to 20 minutes) to focus on your breath and be at peace in the present moment. Making space for just a few minutes of clarity and calm can be a surprisingly big help when you’re under stress. 

2. Swedish Massages

There are many different types of massages available, but the Swedish full body massage has become a popular technique for total relaxation, leaving a person feeling refreshed and renewed as they leave the parlour. 

The aim is to stimulate the nervous system and reduce overall tension. When people are overworked, they’re usually carrying a lot of body stress they don’t even know about, which then creates more mental stress as they feel physiologically tense. It’s even common for people to cry after one of these massages because of how much stress is released. 

3. Walks in Nature

Spending time in nature has been shown in studies to significantly improve a person’s mental well-being, so if you have a local park, wood, or beach nearby, why not take a short walk?

You could even pair some mindfulness exercises with your walk for an even greater effect; find some place to sit halfway through and reflect.

4. Yoga

Yoga can be an extremely powerful asset in your toolkit to combatting stress, and all you really need is a yoga mat and your phone to get started. There are dozens of free instructional yoga videos on YouTube, many of which aim to target stress directly. 

You could also consider going to a class with a friend, as spending time with others and being more social improves your mental health (humans are social creatures, after all). 

5. Creative Pursuits

Another excellent way of reducing stress is to engage in creative pursuits. Activities like playing music, painting or drawing, and dancing are all great ways to release pent-up energy. Whether you’re looking for something relaxing or energetic, there’s something for everyone. 

This could mean choosing a new hobby to try or picking up an old one, but either way, you’ll most definitely feel the benefits.
