My Birthday Wishes for the Year Ahead

It is my birthday week, and as it falls in the spring, I always see this as the new year instead of being in the middle of winter. So, I thought this week we would chat about my birthday wishes for the year ahead, let’s get into it.

My Thoughts Behind my Plans

On Sunday, March 16th, I will be 47 and I am so excited to see in another year and to look ahead making plans as I grow as a person. To me, life is all about how to gain knowledge, learn and grow so I can be a better me for my next incarnation.

I rarely get into my spiritual beliefs here on the blog, but I often do over on my YouTube channel. I am an omnist, which means I believe all religions share universal truths and if I look for the similarities then I will find the answers to my questions of how to connect with God.

So, when I set my birthday wishes for the year ahead, I think about how they will help me to grow and develop over the year. I have a lot of things I want to improve in as a human, and also things I want to get better at as someone who has a YouTube and a blog.

I always saw this blog as a way to share my mental health and chronic illness journey so I can help others and feel less alone. But now I would like to do more with it, in fact the dream would be to make enough money, so I don’t need to have disability benefits.

Once again, our government is going after people on these benefits and reframing it as them wanting to help us get back to working. The problem is that they are not putting money into improving the NHS or ensuring that employers create working accessible.

Buses and trains are still not fully or easily accessible and though working from home is an option thanks to phones and the internet; it is hard to find jobs that give full time work from home as an option.

These plans of course come just as they are forcing everyone on disability benefits to move over to universal credit which just makes everything even more scary. The idea of making my own business somehow from my YouTube and blog would be the dream… I just don’t know how.

My birthday wishes for the year ahead come at a time when I yearn to be able to make my dreams come true. I want more out of life, and I think many people who struggle with chronic illnesses and get to be creeping to 50, feel the same.

Nobody wants to be disabled or to have to be living on the small amount of disability benefits we get. Politics are insane all over the world right now, so as I look ahead, I am trying to think of ways I can be a better me and find ways to cope in this world.

There are things I want to work on and to grow in as we move through and here is my list and plans for my 47th year.

My Plans for the Year Ahead

  • Self-Confidence: This is a big one for me, I have never had confidence or belief in myself which has held me back my whole life. This year I want to step out of my comfort zone and start to work on gaining more belief in myself and what I can achieve. I think this will help me when it come to my generalised anxiety disorder, this blog and my YouTube channel.
  • Meditation: I do my best to meditate daily and to practice mindfulness all day every day. However, life does get in the way sometimes and I skip days which does affect my mental health. I need to concentrate on finding some time every day to meditate, even if it is only five minutes. The days when I do meditate, I cope so much better, so I need to make it a priority.
  • Business knowledge: Now, don’t get me wrong, I am no business mogul, nor do I want to be. However, I would like to improve as a blogger and YouTuber and hopefully start making some real money through them. I think learning how and improving my self-confidence will help in this so my plans are definitely all about gaining knowledge.
  • Read more: This one is as much about rest as it is about gaining knowledge, because as much as I love reading, I need to rest more. I am a disabled carer who helps my husband look after my mom. I often feel like I am running round trying to take care of others and get things done, I think by sitting to read a chapter of a book several times a day I will rest more.
  • Improve my diet: I used to eat really well after I lost weight on Slimming World, but since moving in with mom my diet has gone out the window. I have put weight on and not had the energy to cook, so now I want to lose the weight and to look after my health better.
  • Exercise: Before I get into this, I do have ME which flares with exercise, so I do not want to go crazy. But I do want to do an accessible exercise routine in the evening before getting into bed. This way I can keep healthy and keep my fitness but it hopefully will not lead to a flare of my fatigue.

I am really hopeful that my birthday wishes for the year ahead are not too much, and that I will be able to implement them. Most of my plans in life are about self-care and loving myself better, and I hope that my posts help you to start to do the same. Let me know if you have any wishes for the year ahead
