Extremely Effective Ways to Relax Naturally

Oriental cultures realised centuries ago that emotions can affect our physical health as well. It took the western world a while longer to grasp this principle, and it seems it was in the 1940s before this really happened. It was between then and the 1970s that a distinction was made between good stress and bad stress. We all know about bad stress and anxiety, but did you realise there is good stress that can improve the functions of your brain?

Fight Or Flight Mode

This is one of the times stress can be good. If you are in sudden danger, your body will begin a process of diverting energy from where it is stored and sends it to your muscles. This enables you to fight or flee.  When this happens, bodily processes such as our digestive system, reproductive organs and immune system are all put on hold. Instead, our emergency survival systems, mainly circulation and respiration, are stimulated. The heart and lungs speed up their functions to get more oxygen around the body and your blood vessels will constrict to aid a better blood flow. This is one of nature’s ways of dealing with stress, but there are many other ways that you can relax naturally.

Listen To Music

Listening to music is one of the easiest ways to relax.  Something easy going, perhaps that you can sing along with, will not only help to get rid of stress, it will lift your mood too. You could listen while you work if you want. If you have household chores to do, or have brought a lot of work home, you will be more productive with some music in the background, and will not feel so tired when you have finished the task in hand.

Traditional Chinese Medicines

Traditional Chinese Medicines, which are often made from herbs and Chinese acupuncture, can both be great ways of helping you to relax with the chemicals of drugs to calm you down. It is best to speak with people that understand them, but once you know what to take or do, you will be able to relax much more easily.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy works by providing smells that affect the body’s stress function in the brain. The aromas are usually provided with essential oils from plants, many of which have been used for many years to help improve the quality of life. Aromas from lavender, for instance, will soothe your mind to aid relaxation and sandalwood helps to release negative emotions. Orange has an antidepressant effect, as does jasmine and frankincense. Valerian does not have a pleasant smell but will help you to sleep better and roman chamomile calms the central nervous system.

There are also some smells known as flower essences that can have similar results. Cherry plum and red chestnut will help to fight off fear, where sweet chestnuts are good to calm mental anguish.

Other Ways to Relax Naturally

There are many other ways to relax naturally and you have to discover which is the best for you. It could be that something such as yoga or tai chi helps you relax, or maybe some meditation. Once you have found the one for you and you start to feel the benefits, you will wonder how you managed without relaxing before.
